Shop Till You Distract: Navigating ADHD and Shopping

Have you ever wondered what goes through the brain of an individual with ADHD when shopping? Picture an individual walking through a crowded and noisy city street while being constantly distracted by various sights and sounds. Like navigating a busy city street, shopping with ADHD can be a challenging and overwhelming experience that requires extra effort and strategies to manage effectively. Challenges can include impulsive buying, or getting overwhelmed with choices and then forgetting to buy important items – like going to the grocery store to buy one mango and walking out with a basket full of products you do not need. So, what are some tips and tricks you can use to mediate better shopping trips all around?

Make a detailed shopping list. 

A clear and detailed visual shopping list will help you to effectively stay focused and minimise other distractions. You can even organise your grocery list in order of the store’s layout to avoid walking back and forth and getting distracted. Not to mention the time you will save from knowing exactly what you need to buy!
